Heinz Maier-Leibnitz-Price: Lucas Jae is one of the 2018 Heinz Maier-Leibnitz prize winners

Apr 02, 2018

Dr. Lucas Jae, independent group leader at the LMU Gene Center since 2016, has received Germany’s most important prize for junior scientists today!

Lucas Jae leads a working group on Functional Genomics at the Gene Center of the LMU. The human biologist has been instrumental in deciphering the infection process of viruses that can be deadly to humans, such as the Lassa virus. For his research on signal transduction processes he uses the latest developments in experimental genomics and molecular biology. Among other things, he works with the so-called CRISPR / CAS method, which allows a precise change of the genetic material.

Lucas Jae studied human biology at the University of Marburg and the Whitehead Institute at MIT in Cambridge, USA. Jae earned his doctorate from the Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam, where he later became a postdoc with Dr. med. Thijn Brummelkamp worked.

The DFG and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research are honoring ten "outstanding young researchers" this year with the renowned Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prize, according to a statement by the DFG. The prize is endowed with 20,000 euros each.
